Join us for a very special opportunity to gather together and explore some of the most effective and engaging classroom practices. Innovators from the three Bronx CUNY colleges, Lehman College, Hostos, and Bronx Community Colleges, demonstrate their exemplary models for integrating and infusing technology into their fully online, hybrid, and traditional teaching methods. This year’s #BronxEdTech Showcase will be in person on Friday, May 2, 2025, at Lehman College, and will mark our 12th year.

Call for Proposals
We invite thought leaders, researchers, educators, and practitioners from the Bronx CUNY campuses and beyond to share how they are integrating artificial intelligence into their teaching and learning practices. This call for proposals aims to showcase innovative approaches that demonstrate the powerful synergy between AI and human collaboration to foster equitable and inclusive educational environments.
Submissions should highlight practical case studies, theoretical insights, and innovative strategies that utilize AI to bridge digital divides, enhance accessibility, and effectively support underserved communities. We are particularly interested in proposals that illustrate how these technologies empower diverse learners, promote ethical AI usage, and reimagine education as a space for inclusive growth.
Together, let’s explore and celebrate the transformative potential of AI in education, envisioning a future where human ingenuity and technological innovation converge to create equitable learning experiences for all.

Affordable Tech Tool to Enhance Teaching and Learning in Stem Courses

Learning Modalities
Could STEM courses be converted from in‐person to on‐line modalities? They require heavy hands‐on manipulations and robust chalk‐talk. Could technology, used by graphic artists, illustrators, and others in the visual arts fields, replace black and white boards? Could it enable instructors to write, draw and annotate text remotely on a computer screen in real time? Yes, to these questions, because the subject technology works like a mouse, but handles like a pen. This affordable e‐pen and tablet replace other more costly devices. The presenters initiated a program to install the technology in multiple STEM‐related programs and departments. They will discuss the features, advantages and benefits of this technology and will show the planning approach, training system and distribution method.
Adjusting a WI Microbiology Course’s Instruction to Fit the Current Needs of Our Students

A writing intensive course in microbiology provides science students opportunities to improve their communication and critical thinking skills in addition to learning course content. As a result of instructional modality changes due to the pandemic, the course needed re‐structuring with respect to instructional material as well as some assignments so as to deal with student knowledge / skill gaps and to allow students to work around life complexities which could impact their performance. Some of the course changes will be discussed including increased use of discussion boards and development of an OER lab manual. The overall intention is to adopt where possible the best of what was used in both online or in-person modalities to benefit student instruction and increase student success.

Digital Literacy
We are using non‐traditional resources to supplement course materials. We have moved from an encyclopedia, to Wikipedia, to Google, to Chat GPT. How are we paraphrasing and citing this access to primary and secondary sources? Are we attempting to create assignments that are “Artificial Intelligent resistant?” How can faculty use AI sources to enhance creativity in their assignments and assessments? Machiavelli advised to keep your friends close and your enemies closer – do we keep our books and journals close, and the internet closer? As instructors, do we embrace AI, or continue to wage a losing battle against it. Should students use all available options in completing assignments. Where do information availability, acquisition of knowledge, and ethical behavior cross paths?

Student Engagement & Active Learning
Commons In A Box OpenLab (https://cboxopenlab.org/) is free, open source software that enables anyone to launch a commons for open learning. Built here at CUNY, it provides powerful open infrastructure for innovation and collaboration, helping students, faculty, and staff work together across institutional boundaries, sharing their creativity with one another and the world. There are vibrant OpenLabs at City Tech and BMCC, and SPS is preparing to launch an OpenLab focused on student community‐building. We will show how CBOX OpenLab can advance open pedagogies, OER, internships, portfolios, co‐curricular activities, and other active learning practices that promote student engagement and success, and is driving cross‐CUNY collaboration around best practices and new feature development.

The TLTR has been engaging Faculty and Staff at BCC for the past two decades. The Roundtable discusses the most current educational topics faculty encounter in their professional practice. We have played an integral role in decision making about new technology and pedagogy. The roundtable gives Staff including LMS administrators an opportunity to share current issues and receive feedback from the rest of the group. Participants will experience a roundtable discussion in real time and learn what other faculty and staff are doing to overcome obstacles to the educational process and will share best practices in teaching with technology.

The Hostos Office of Educational Technology has a comprehensive plan to support faculty in creating and improving online learning experiences. The plan includes consultation services, mentoring, training, resources, and support in three main areas: tools for academic integrity, promoting reflection, and differentiated activities/course planning. Hostos is committed to providing ongoing support and developing new initiatives to enhance online learning. This presentation will showcase Hostos' approach to innovation in online learning, covering past, present, and near‐future strategies.
The Musk Effect: Analyzing the Impact of Elon Musk's Purchase of Twitter on one Library’s User Base

In December 2021, Elon Musk announced his intention to buy Twitter for $44 billion, stunning the tech industry and sparking heated debates about the future of the platform. In the months since Musk purchased Twitter, the service has undergone significant changes, both in terms of features and its user base. This proposal aims to explore the effects of Musk's purchase on Twitter through the lens of its impact on our Library’s Twitter profile. This presentation will explore how our userbase has changed, what effects Musk’s ownership has had on user engagement, how Twitter’s content and tone has changed, and what this means for students and for organizations that use Twitter as part of their social media portfolio.

Flipped Learning & Differentiated Instruction
At Lehman College, we recognized the need to enhance our classroom technology infrastructure to provide our faculty and students with a seamless transition between in-person, hybrid, and online learning environments. The COVID-19 pandemic further demonstrated the need for educational institutions to be prepared to deliver high-quality instruction in multiple formats. Through an institution-wide collaboration, Lehman College developed the classroom technology standards and guiding principles for enhancing teaching and learning spaces with contemporary equipment and software. The classroom technology upgrade with HyFlex capabilities project involved the upgrade of 172 standard classrooms and 4 lecture rooms, all networked and connected to an audio-visual management system. Attendees will learn about this journey, including support through our Train the Trainer program and Rapid Response Team. We will showcase our classroom technology infrastructure, which was selected as an exemplar and will be featured in the 2023 Teaching and Learning Horizon Report. What’s the (ChatGP)Tea? Exploring Queer Student Engagement With and Through AI Language Models

This presentation reports on a project undertaken by the LGBTQI+ Resource Room at Bronx Community College through its QueerLit Book Club, wherein students explored queer topics and prompts using ChatGPT to generate stories and responses for them to explore and critique. It is hoped that through additional projects such as this, more and more consideration will be given to the ongoing issues of bias and heteronormativity in AI language models and the chatbots on which they rely.

Observation, feedback and trial and error were helpful. In this session, participants will learn of the presenter's journey with synchronous teaching as she points out specific strategies which help her students thrive in an online environment today.
